Residency Application Headshots That Program Directors Remember
Your ERAS photo is the first thing reviewers see — before your Step scores, your personal statement, or your letters. We photograph medical students and residents at our San Mateo studio with the kind of lighting and direction that makes you look like someone they want on their team.
Book Your Session →Your ERAS Photo Gets Seen Hundreds of Times
Program directors flip through thousands of applications each cycle. Your headshot is attached to every single interaction they have with your file — from the initial screen to the rank list meeting.
It Follows Your Application Everywhere
Your ERAS photo appears on your application summary, interview schedule, and the rank list discussion. It's the visual anchor for your entire candidacy. A rushed selfie or a poorly lit snapshot works against you in ways you'll never know about.
You Only Upload It Once
ERAS lets you upload one photo for the entire cycle. There's no going back after submission. That single image represents you to every program you apply to — dermatology or family medicine, Harvard or community hospital. It needs to work across all of them.
Phone Photos Don't Cut It Anymore
Every year, more applicants show up with studio-quality headshots. The bar has shifted. A photo taken against your apartment wall with overhead lighting doesn't say "I take this seriously." It says the opposite.
What Your Session Includes
Everything is designed to get this done quickly and correctly — because you have boards to study for.
ERAS-Compliant Framing
Head-and-shoulders crop, neutral background, proper resolution. We know the AAMC photo guidelines — you don't have to.
Expression & Posing Coaching
Most med students haven't done this before. We walk you through it — chin angle, shoulder position, the smile that reads "confident" not "nervous."
Multiple Backgrounds & Looks
We shoot on white, gray, and light blue so you have options. White coat, no white coat, blazer — we'll try a few and you pick what feels right.
Same-Day Selection & Fast Delivery
Choose your favorite on a large monitor right after the shoot. Retouched images delivered in 3–5 business days. Rush delivery available if your deadline is close.

Questions From Med Students
It depends on the specialty. For most fields, a white coat reads as professional and appropriate. For competitive specialties like dermatology or plastic surgery, some students prefer a blazer for a more polished, less clinical look. We shoot both options so you can decide after seeing the results.
Light gray or white backgrounds are the safest choice — they're clean, distraction-free, and work across every program's system. We also offer light blue, which can add subtle warmth. Avoid dark or colored backgrounds that compete with your face for attention.
Aim for July or August before your application cycle opens in September. This gives you time to reshoot if needed and avoids the last-minute rush. That said, we've accommodated students as late as the week of submission with rush turnaround.
Our headshot packages start at $249, which includes studio time, posing direction, multiple backgrounds, same-day proofing, and retouched final images. Most med students book our standard package — it covers everything you need for ERAS, LinkedIn, and your institution's website.
A good headshot lasts 2–3 years as long as your appearance hasn't changed dramatically. Many of our clients use their residency headshot through fellowship applications, hospital directory listings, and early-career professional profiles.
Most of our med student clients say exactly this before the session, and most say "that was actually fun" after. We guide every detail — where to look, how to stand, when to smile. You don't need to know anything about photography. That's our job.
